Spatial configuration and typology of the urban functional area of the twin cities Uruguaiana (BR) - Paso de Los Libres (AR): border dynamics

The Brazilian borderline twin-cities are spatially contiguous urban aglomerates discontinuous territorially. Their typological diversity is related to borderline porosity border and constraints for conurbation between twin cities parts. Strategic for transnational and cross-border integration processes, their multiscale interactions with the urban network and regional circulation, relate to their functional specialization according to floes type and intensity. The hypothesis is that there is a positive correlation between these processes and changes in spatial system self=organization that informs interfaces and exchanges across territorial boundaries. The case of the twin cities of Uruguaiana (BR).and Paso de Los Libres (AR),an important MERCOSUR gateway in cargo volume allows the hyothesis testing concerning changes in the spatial configuration under conurbation and functional centrality typification that emerges from spatial diffusion patterns of specialized services related to cross-border and transnational flows and multi-scale interactions
