The structuring of urban and regional space from the São Francisco´s river transposition (2007-2017)

The proposal of this work is to identify impacts that the São Francisco transposition construction has promoted on urban-regional space structuring in its North Axis, in particular, in the region of Salgueiro and its surroundings. The discussion starts from elements that allowed to understand the meaning and nature of the large infrastructure projects in Lulismo (2003-2016) and to assess the transformations promoted in the territories reached. It can be observed that, upon reaching local areas, such undertakings demand productive restructuring, integration into broader circuits of relationships and increasing incorporation of territories and populations into the regional urban fabric, encompassing the countryside and its production - elements identified in the territory evaluated in the case study. Due to the removal of the PT government, the dismantling of its development policies and the strong crisis that befell the country, the ongoing processes were reversed for the region, with the establishment of stagnation and crisis based on the economic cost of paralysis of projects in its territory.
