Cooperativism in Rio Grande do Norte-Brazil

The work aims to build a scenario of the cooperativism potiguar, in the most recent period (from 2010 to 2018), with emphasis on the main fields of activity, changes in the number of cooperative members and occupations generated by the segment. To this end, bibliographical research and data collection were carried out on the websites of entities representing the segment, such as the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB). It was found that, in the period, the number of cooperatives linked to the OCB System in Rio Grande do Norte dropped from 210 cooperatives to 121, which also resulted in a reduction of the number of cooperative members. During this period, there was a modest increase in the number of jobs generated by cooperativism, with an increase of 178 people. In terms of distribution between branches, Agriculture had the largest number of cooperatives (24.26% of the cooperatives); the Infrastructure branch had the largest number of members (50.96% of the total) and the Health branch the largest number of workers with 62.22% of the total.
