The aim of this article is to review the recent policy of the Brazilian federal government and its regionalization, which places the Matopiba as the last agricultural frontier in the world. This study sought to show that the recent agricultural frontier incorporates not only that geographical space, but also regions from other states of the Brazil. For this, we used some theoretical approaches about the underdeveloped agriculture and its continued even under conditions of modernization. Combined with the theses of these authors, we criticize some recent approaches about Brazilian agriculture that ignores its contradictions around the agrarian question remain. To support our criticism, analyze statistical data on the importance of extensive occupation in the current period and present a proposal for regionalization formed by the recent agricultural frontier that allow a better understanding of agricultural expansion in the country.
