The Brazilian regional issues: notes about the variation of disparities between regions at the beginning of the 21st century

One of the most emblematic issues of national development was, and still is, the economic inequality of the geographical space defined in Brazil, and since the 1950s, the North and Northeast regions have received considerable political attention and large public investments. Despite the effort, this issue is still a challenge to the State and has behaved differently as a result of changes in macroeconomic policies. In this way, this article tries to show the differentiation of the economic growth of the regions and the process of regional economic deconcentration those results from the implementation of neoliberal policies in Brazil, with emphasis on the industrial sector, and the first decade of the 2000s. All this is necessary due to the continuity of Furtados postulate about the need for industrialization in the Northeast as a factor in breaking the exploratory and unequal structure that existed at the time of SUDENE.
