The article analyzes the scientific production of higher education in events linked
to the knowledge field of Urban and Regional Planning and Demography (PLURD in
Portuguese). This research is a bibliometric review based on the electronic annals of the
websites of the three most important events from 2014 to 2019. The results show a prevalence
of studies on Federal Higher Education Institutions (Federal HEIs), qualitative studies that
focus on regional development. A summary table shows a shift in the scientific field axis and
the change on focus by graduation, expansion, interiorization, investment, democratization,
implantation, infrastructure, actors, organizational aspects, region to studies that analyze
graduate studies, consolidation, polarization, innovation, performance, impact, institutional
arrangements, performance, interinstitutional, pole-cities and economic growth. On final
considerations are presented research gaps and trends such as the transversal public policies
involving a development perspective through HEIs.
