Affirmative policies at university; a look at the indigenous population

This bibliographical study aims to discuss the importance of policies affirmatiove to promote the inclusion and permanence of indigenous students in higher education. Affirmative action, such as quotas and support programmes, are crucial to correcting these injustices and guaranteeing equal access to higher education. UFRGS, in particular, has adopted a selection process with supplementary places for indigenous people, organising annual assemblies with indigenous leaders to decide which courses are available. The inclusion and valorisation of indigenous culture in the university environment is fundamental to enriching the curriculum and promoting a more inclusive and diverse understanding of knowledge. In short, affirmative action public policies are essential for a fairer and more democratic society, recognising the valuable contribution of indigenous peoples
