Contours of a peripheral story: digression on culture and politics in Northeastern Brazil

This article consists in an effort to reflect on the Brazilian northeast region while a result of political processes. Of detained mode, three views were prepared as the main on regional twentieth century. Thus, Gilberto Freyre, Celso Furtado and Durval Muniz are representatives of unique perspectives and illuminate at the same time criticize and deconstruct other views of the same Northeast. In the early 2000, a new political dynamic begins. Faced with this context, it is still possible to speak of Northeast? Still makes sense to use the term region? This work aims to answer yes to these questions. The regional, so in these terms, it is not restricted to territorial bases, but the attitudes and political interests that coalesce. In summary, this paper describes the provocation on the concept of regional and theoretical processes that addressed one Northeast that reinvents itself.
