Recent changes on the Santa Catarina State political reform process

In 2003 began the changes in political structure of Santa Catarina State. The main objective of this process was promoted the regional development and reduces the social inequalities. The action in this field conducted by the government had the intention to minimize the negatives effects caused by the population concentration on the coast. In that time the Santa Catarina State created 36 regional officers with the function to implement the political reform. After twelve years, this issue came back to the political agenda in 2015 when the Santa Catarina Governor sent a new proposal of political reform. This proposal was approved by the State Parliament in the end of the same year. In general terms we can say that the political reform move back because the political decisions now are very concentrated again in the central governmental structure, and the civil society lost the possibilities to discuss the political decisions in the regional sphere inside of the development council.
