Regionalization, commuting and metropolitan challenges: the case of Campinas Metropolitan Region

In the current conjuncture of our society, speed and movement are two imperatives and the commuting, as a phenomenon of major conurbations areas can be indicative of new forms of organization of cities and their metropolitan areas. Therefore, this article assumes the premise that the commuting and the regionalization process of urbanization have close relations and joint analysis of these two factors can elucidate the understanding of complex active processes in recent urban form. However, this paper discusses the methodological process of creating metropolitan regions in Brazil and proposes the use of indicators related to migration and commuting as analytical possibility to understand the territorial nexus in the metropolitan region of Campinas.
