Development can be understood as a process, a succession of phenomena, from the act of proceeding, and also as a project, as a projection for the future, of undertaking and controlling that future. The theoretical production is significant, from the peripheries to developed countries. We propose a reflection on how knowledge about regional development is produced in the Latin American context. The hypothesis is that processes such as internal colonialism can also be observed in the production of knowledge about regional development in Latin America. The initial impression is of a scenario marked by the use of theories originating from developed countries or theories developed from within Latin America inspired by external theories. In this sense, it is reaffirmed that the challenge of understanding the role of social practices in shaping space remains relevant and allows us to understand the challenges and implications of different development models in social life.
