For a long time, the Northeast region was understood as a "problem region" on the national scene and in the background on development policy. The projects were related to climate systems, social indicators and an emerging industrial structure. The areas that fall into social and political assistance are local. The article is an analysis of the importance of Sudene for the economic development of the Northeast region. Having as search procedure the bibliographic survey, he study analyzes the regional policies developed in the region through the Superintendency for the Development of the Northeast. It is concluded that the agencys performance has become an element of historical reference for planning and since then for understanding of present regional problems.
