Agrofinancialization of the sugar-energetic sector in the State of Minas Gerais

The aim of the article is, based on an analysis of the agro-financialisation, to establish a conceptualisation of the intricate contradictions arising from the financialisation of the sugar-energy sector. In addition, a hypothesis will be launched that sheds light on the complex and interconnected imposition of economic, political and geographical imperatives inherent in agro-financialisation, which influence the sugarcane complex. The scope of the investigation, by encompassing interconnected dimensions of an economic, political and geographical nature, is underpinned by theoretical foundations that embrace agro-financialisation as a multifaceted phenomenon. The aim is to understand how this phenomenon fits into the context of the growing internationalisation of production in the sugar-energy sector. The research makes a relevant contribution to agrarian geography by broadening our understanding of the mechanisms of agro-financialisation that have significantly transformed the Brazilian sugar-energy sector
