Social changes in family farming in Santa Catarina based on PRONAF

This article aimed to analyze the social changes that occurred among family farmers in Santa Catarina after the implementation of PRONAF. A field research was carried out in seven municipalities in the state of Santa Catarina through semi-structured interviews, totaling 55 interviews with social actors linked to the theme. The interpretation of the information collected in the field was performed using the content analysis method, which was supported by the ATLAS.ti software version 8.4.22.0. The dialogue with the results demonstrates significant improvements from the access to the programs credit. The social dimension measured from access to goods and services had a significant improvement due to access to PRONAF. It is concluded that PRONAF was and still is a public policy capable of promoting changes in the economic and social conditions of family farming in Santa Catarina.
