From soybeans to cattle: analysis of the distribution of the National Program for the Medium Rural Producer

This study aims to identify some characteristics of the National Support Program for Medium Rural Producers (PRONAMP) which was established in recent years as a public rural credit policy aimed at a “new class” of farmers. Based on the bibliography and data collection, an analysis of the distribution of PRONAMP contracts and resources among Brazilian regions and states is carried out, which will allow a first critical evaluation and initial proposals for their improvement. It is considered that, although the program has existed for more than a decade, there is still a lack of a clear definition of the category of medium producer, as currently the classification is based only in terms of annual income.
