Impacts of COVID-19 on prices and agricultural production in Sergipe

The spread of COVID-19 caused impacts on the production and prices of agricultural products. Thus, this study aims to analyze the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the production and prices of the main agricultural products and agricultural inputs in the state of Sergipe, Brazil. To this end, a document analysis was initially carried out, and then secondary statistical data on production, prices received by farmers, market prices and prices paid by producers for the years 2017 to September 2021 were analyzed, which were deflated. The results show that there was continuity in the amount of food produced even with the increase in prices of agricultural products and in agricultural production costs, which were influenced by several factors, mainly by Brazils dependence on the foreign market, high oil, growth in short-term input prices, increased demand for primary products, and the devaluation of the real in the period observed.
