Housing Conditions and Artisanal Fishing: An Analysis of the Municipalities of the Campos Basin-RJ

This work aims to analyze the housing and urban conditions of beach fishermen in the Campos Basin - RJ, more specifically in the cities of Campos dos Goytacazes, São João da Barra and Macaé. Such municipalities are located in the north of Rio de Janeiro, immersed in a particular economy that has important effects on artisanal fishing: oil and port economy. This article is the result of research funded by the Pescarte Environmental Education Project (PEA), which is a mitigation measure required by the Federal Environmental Licensing, conducted by IBAMA. The methodology used for the preparation of this work was based on the analysis of quantitative data from the Pescarte Census, as well as interviews with artisanal fishermen and fisherwomen. As a result, we observe a certain precariousness of housing conditions and of access to equipment and public policies more effective and specific to their needs.
